Perhaps you're on the fence on whether transition is really important, and for yourself that is a question only you can answer, but consider its importance for those who are diagnosed with gender dysphoria. Gender Dysphoria is a medical condition that causes discomfort in individuals stemming from the incongruance between their external experience of their gender and their internal gender identity. Essentially, it is psychological pain caused by not being the gender or sex they are.
In a Randomized Clinical Trial in Australia from November 1, 2021, to July 22, 2022, 64 trans individuals seeking testosterone treatment were separated into two groups, one who got immediate care and another who waited the normally stipulated 3 month period. The results of this trial showed that the hormonal treatment significantly reduced depression, gender dysphoria, and suicidality. The control group did not show clinically significant change over the same period, showing that the treatment is effective at its stated purpose of treating gender dysphoria and its related symptoms.(Brendan J. Nolan, et al.)
A study followup from 2017 by the European Network for the Investigation of Gender Incongruence (or ENIGI) looked into the condition of trans individuals who from 2007 to 2009 had attempted to access gender affirming care. As described in the study, they found that "29 participants (14%) did not receive medical interventions, 36 hormones only (18%), and 136 hormones and surgery (68%)" (Tim C van de Grift, et al.). What it also found was that those who had recieved hormones had improved body image and reduced rates of gender dysphoria compared to those who had failed to recieve treatment. Similarly, those who had successfully recieved surgical interventions also improved on average more than those who had only recieved hormones.

A study from the The Amsterdam Cohort of Gender Dysphoria retroactively monitored individuals who visited the largest Dutch gender identity clinic from 1972 through 2015. It revealed that the number of trans patents per year has scaled up twenty fold in the 50 year time span, however it also revealed that the regret rate of gonadectomy (for Sexual Reassignment Surgery) had been less than one percent.(Chantal M. Wiepjes, et al.) This suggests that treatment is being used more than ever, and that those who undergo SRS are unlikely to want to detransition (rare, but which still happens and still requires its own level of medical care and treatment).
Studies like these show that access to gender affirming care is important for individuals with Gender Dysphoria.
